UCAN is a 149-year-old non-profit committed to healing, educating, and empowering youth in Chicago and serving over 21,000 children, youth, and families across Illinois. Connecting with at-risk youth is essential to the service UCAN provides. Many of the young people who walk through UCAN's doors experience violence, trauma, and/or abuse, and reaching them can be a real challenge and often requires meeting them on their own terms. The UCAN leadership team and members of the board turned to EX3 Labs to explore an interactive way to collaborate with young people and apply design thinking to address 4 key initiatives:
The workshop enabled 30 participants from UCAN to listen to and collaborate with their end-users in order to build solutions that leveraged emerging technology.
EX3 Labs led UCAN through an interactive process that allowed participants to explore how emerging technologies might help the organization enhance and expand their current services to continue meeting the needs of Chicago's most vulnerable citizens.
By the end of the Design Thinking session, UCAN's board, leadership team, and community members had developed 4 ideas, leveraging emerging technology to enhance their service delivery and communication experience as they continue to make a positive impact on the Chicago community.
