Exploring Immersive Training Opportunities in Construction

Through onsite research, Knauf Digital identified a challenge of helping TopBuild shift the learning curve for newly hired installers to reduce costs and increase effectiveness of training and development.  Knauf Digital partnered with EX3 Labs to design a technology playground and design thinking workshop with TopBuild stakeholders to explore this issue.

Technology Playground

TopBuild and Knauf Digital participants cycled through 3 technology stations: Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and Mobile Micro Learning. The team reviewed relevant case studies, tested the technology, and explored potential uses within TopBuild.

Shifting the Learning Curve

Next, team members worked together to investigate, learn, and explore viable solutions to the high turnover issue for new installers through a Design Thinking workshop. Many “a-ha” moments were witnessed throughout the day as participants gained insight from working with team members across different departments and disciplines.
