USF Health has a strong reputation as an outstanding academic institution. Aiming to set the tone for the next five years, the USF Health’s Department of Surgery partnered with EX3 Labs to help improve departmental communication and remove barriers through a series of collaborative work sessions.
Organizing a 70+ participant retreat that is both effective and can accomodate the faculty and staffs’ busy schedules requires a great deal of coordination and planning. Ahead of the retreat, EX3 Labs facilitated working sessions with department leaders to define the structure and theme, and leveraged this content to aid in the development of a refined mission and purpose. The session began with reflection on the organizations recent advancements along with a retrospective on opportunities for the department to improve.
This session made me feel revived. This makes you remember the ‘Why’."Ashley Mooney, USF Health, GI Surgery
The retreat included collaborative breakout group activities that were led by EX3 Labs facilitators. Over the course of the 5 hour session, the groups established 20+ strategic initiatives, prioritized 32 tactics and identified 30 partners to help them achieve their goals. All of which mapped to their newly developed shared purpose: providing world-class surgical care, through transformational research and education of the next generation of academic surgical leaders and scientists.
